Songs, together with narrative and poetry tell the story of the international fight against fascism in Spain.
The Spanish Civil War was fought from 17 July 1936 to 1 April 1939 between the Republicans, who were loyal to the democratically elected Spanish Republic, and the Nationalists, a rebel group led by General Francisco Franco aided by Hitler and Mussolini.
Many non-Spaniards joined the International Brigades, knowing that the Spanish Republic was a front line in the war against fascism.
Between 1936 and 1939 over 35,000 men and women, from over 50 countries, left their homes to volunteer for the Republican forces.
Many from Gloucestershire answered that call including Laurie Lee who joined the international fight against the fascists.
This performance is dedicated to them.”No Pasaran !”
“No Pasaran”,written by Stuart Butler with songs by Danny McCue will be Katie McCue, Alex Raeburn, Jude Woodgyer and Paul Southcott, with flamenco from Keith Patterson and Kostka Garcia. Stuart Butler and Jen B will join the company for the narration and poetry.
